The best kept secret in time management: time blocking

The best kept secret in time management: time blocking

Well, there are actually two best kept secrets in time management-time blocking and task batching. Today, we are focusing on time blocking. I use time blocking to get back on schedule when my days or weeks start becoming chaotic or I start losing control over my calendar. This goes for both professional and personal commitments because let's be honest, most of us are working on or trying to accommodate someone else's schedules and priorities a lot of the time. And we don't always have a choice about it. So, what exactly is it?

Time blocking is like playing Tetris with your schedule, but instead of stacking blocks, you're slotting in dedicated chunks of time for specific tasks or projects. Whether it's conquering that looming project deadline or finally tackling your overflowing inbox, time blocking is your go-to strategy.

Here's the deal: you carve out these time slots in your calendar and assign each one a particular task. It's like giving your to-do list a makeover, with each task getting its moment in the spotlight. But here's where the magic happens: during these time blocks, you go into productivity ninja mode. You shut out distractions, turn off those pesky notifications, and dive headfirst into your work.

And the best part? Time blocking isn't just about getting stuff done; it's about doing it smarter. By prioritizing your tasks and allocating dedicated time for each one, you ensure that nothing slips through the cracks. No more frantic multitasking or feeling overwhelmed by your workload—time blocking keeps you focused and on track.

So, whether you're a seasoned pro or just dipping your toes into the productivity pool, give time blocking a whirl. It's like having your own personal assistant, helping you wrangle your schedule and kick butt at work. Trust me, once you start, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.

I time block on a near-daily basis and it's one of the best tools in my time management toolkit.

Happy planning!
